Canva is fast becoming one of the largest web based graphic design and photo editing tools. It offers both a free version as well as a premium paid subscription which allows customers to create all types of graphics without any experience in graphic design or photo editing.
If you’re using the paid version of Canva, here are a few tips to help you resize your images to our custom screen-print heat transfers.
To begin, we will need to determine which sheet or paper size you want to purchase. In this example, we will use one of our “single image” sheet sizes.
It’s a good idea to jot these sizes down for future reference.
On the Canva “Home” page, select the “custom size” button located on the right side. Once you click on the button a drop-down menu will appear.
In the “Custom Size” drop down menu, first change the default measurement from Pixels to Inches. Once you change to inches, you can then enter the width of 12.75” and the height as 9” as shown below.
Under the file menu, select the “Show Rulers and Guides” option to turn the rulers on in the preview window. This will help confirm your artwork size when scale and resize your artwork.
How to resize your image with Canva
Upload your compatible art file from your computer. Canva accepts .SVG, .PNG, .PDF, .TIF or .JPG.*. In this example, we used a .SVG file which stands for Scalable Vector Graphic. If you’re only going to print a one color file, we recommend uploading your file filled in black.
Once you have your artwork uploaded, now click on it or drag it on the canvas. If you followed step #2, your paper/ canvas size will be 12.75” wide by 9” tall. Drag your image to the left corner and click it one time. You will see 4 “points” appear. Now drag the right lower “node” and you will see the measurement appear as you drag and enlarge the file.
Once you “max out” the image size you can center the image by dragging it to the middle. In this example we went to the edge of the canvas.
Next go to “File” and click once. You can now enter the name of your art file. If you don’t name it, the default name will be untitled 9×12.75”. Next select “Download” from the menu. On the right, you will see a drop down menu to select your file type. For screen-print transfers, we recommend selecting the “PDF Print, best for printing” option. Then change the default from RGB to CMYK.
Your downloaded image will now be resized to fit the 9”x12.75” sheet size. If you have Adobe Photoshop, you can confirm the final print size. See example.
Now that you have successfully learned how to resize your image with Canva, It is important to understand there may be important items to check. We don’t recommend or endorse using Canva in any way. We understand there are many graphic design programs available,Canva is just one of them.
